- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons orange zest
- ½ cup fresh orange juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cardamom.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy (3–4 minutes).
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in orange zest, orange juice, and vanilla extract.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk, starting and ending with dry mixture. Mix until just combined.
- Divide batter evenly between pans. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely before frosting or glazing.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, consider adding more orange zest or a splash of orange liqueur.
