Description

A delicious and fragrant rice dish made with Basmati rice and green peas, perfect as a side or main dish.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup Basmati Rice (Rinsed and soaked for 30 minutes)
  • 1 cup Green Peas (Fresh or frozen)
  • 2 medium Tomatoes (Chopped)
  • 1 medium Onion (Finely chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons Oil (Vegetable or ghee)
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger-Garlic Paste
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Garam Masala
  • 1 teaspoon Salt (Adjust to taste)
  • 2 cups Water

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Stir in ginger-garlic paste and cook for a minute until fragrant.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften.
  5. Add green peas, garam masala, and salt. Mix well.
  6. Add the soaked rice and gently mix to combine.
  7. Pour in water, bring to a boil, then cover and reduce heat to low. Cook for 15-20 minutes until rice is tender.
  8. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork before serving.

Notes

  • This recipe can be made with either fresh or frozen green peas.
  • Adjust the amount of salt according to your taste.
  • Letting the rice sit after cooking helps enhance the flavors.
